Haslemere 2s 1-5 Gosport
13th February 2010
Let’s start by getting a few things straight… Haslemere 2s play in div 4, we turned up without a keeper, the team seem to play better when it’s a non-league game, oh and Lou Brackstone played. Think you may now get the picture.
The trip up the A3 took about an hour as Joni’s car does not seem to go above 50 mph, so upon arrival it almost felt like we had travelled to London. The game itself was played in the right spirit. Haslemere kindly leant us their extra GK. No-one had quite explained to Carra about how to start the game, as after mentioning that you should really pass the ball to the oppo to start she fired the ball into the corner for good yardage – not quite the right idea?! The two teams looking to play decent hockey with the early play fairly competitive. Gosport showing some good passing began to knock the ball around well and created a number of chances in open play. The Haslemere keeper saving a few and one hitting a post. The home team then responded with good interplay down the right flank leading to an early cross and a one touch sweep to score (1-0). Heads did not drop amongst the away team as they responded in kind immediately. About a minute later and the ball was finished off by the returning Lou after an infamous mazy turning dribble (1-1).
Gosport playing in a not so familiar blue continued to dominate possession in the Haslemere half. Chances came and went, with both Sam and Hannah in the middle of the park attempting to pick the final pass into the D. One piece of play breaking for Georgia in the D was met with sweep undercut – the home defender ducking on the line, but with an alert gk behind a potential goal of the season contender was not meant to be. Further goals in the half by Carra and Lou left the half time score at 1-3.
The second half served up more of the same. A guest appearance at right half from Emily Masson generated opportunities down one flank with Georgia providing more of the same down the other. Imi moved into centre half, showing some good touches. Finally Lou broke free in the D once more to complete her hat trick (1-4).
Let’s be honest, that was actually the final score. It just so happens that with 10 minutes to go a Haslemere stop on the line with a defender’s foot resulted in a PS. Joni sprinted with delight 50 yards down the pitch for a chance to score this season. 23 steps or so later at the PS and a sweep into the bottom right corner however just left the umpires confused as to whether she had broken the rules or not…. goal disallowed. Even though a read of the rules after the match confirmed it should have stood. So at least for this report it will – GOAL 1-5 and final score. Oh and before I forget, with 5 minutes to go Lou broke free 1v1 and just proved that she cant hit a ball for toffee by tamely passing it to the keeper…
Sausage verdict – no sausage, just tuna…
