Gosport 4-2 Eastleigh
20th February 2010
A home game to top of the table Eastleigh could be a lot of people’s idea of a nightmare towards the end of a season where relegation is still a distinct possibility.
Gosport started the game strongly off of the back of good performances in most games since Christmas. Strong running on the left by Georgia Clist and good interchanges in the middle by Sam Mitchell & Hannah Masson left the balance of possession with the home side. After a couple of PCs came and went, finally the whites found the breakthrough goal, with Gaynor Toms finishing a good move after 15 minutes (1-0). Eastleigh then responding in course with a quick ball finding their pivotal forward at about the halfway line. The no.112 then proceeded to weave between 3 flailing challenges and then sent a vicious shot into the bottom corner to level things up after 20 (1-1). With minutes left of the half a further Gosport PC saw AJ Cree send a crashing shot goalwards with the ever alert Hannah there to divert the ball in via the underside of the crossbar. 2-1 half time.
More of the same was in order for the second 35, but with a slight twist. Eastleigh dominated the first 10 of the half and the no.112 duly converted at a PC to level the game once more (2-2). It was just the wake up call Gosport needed as they set about the oppo defence in style with chance after chance being created a duly spurned. Eventually Gaynor picked up her second of the game, and not to be outdone Hannah converted another PC to leave the leaders gameplan in tatters. Final score 4-2.
With 4 games to go only 3 wins will definitely see Gosport safe – all still to play for.
Sausage verdict – back to reality, just not enough to go round.
