Ladies 1st vs Hamble Ladies 1st

Gosport 2-0 Hamble
13th March 2010

So then, one of the final two hurdles to make sure that there wasn’t even the smallest chance of relegation…

Against a Hamble team that had been on the slide in recent weeks, Gosport could be considered favourites for once in what could have been termed another six-pointer.  Recent form had now left the home side with aspirations of a top 6 finish – yeah ok, that is still bottom half when you consider there’s only 10 in the league, but it’s a damn sight prettier than the way things were looking at Christmas!

The game started in the vein that would continue for the whole 70 minutes…. Good passing from the home side, vs strong individual running from the oppo no.3.  Unfortunately in an eleven aside game it was going to always favour the whites.  Eventually after hitting a post and having a few PCs well saved by the keeper the break through finally came.  Literally after ten seconds on the pitch as a substitute Christina Nelson broke to the top right of the D and finished into the bottom right hand corner via a deflection (1-0).  Julie Way in the Gosport goal had to slide well at the feet of the Hamble forward (no.3) as they pressed at times for an equaliser but was never really troubled.  Gosport then extended their lead.  Gaynor Toms further continued her fine form scoring her 7th goal in 4 from close range.  Half time 2-0.

The second half was kinda like the first but just lacked that extra something all around the field.  Hamble had stepped up their game to an extent, closing the play better.  But even with a fair amount of chances Gosport failed to extend their lead further.  Sterling work in the middle of the pitch from Sam Mitchell was just not to be rewarded, as either the final ball or the shot from receiving players just did not hit the mark.  Full time 2-0 and guaranteed div 3 hockey next season!

Next week Fareham 2s, and for once a pre-match speech that will just not involve the R word.

Sausage verdict – Way too greasy for both Cree and Mitchell

MOM – Sam Mitchell
