Ladies 1st vs Trojans Ladies 3rd

Gosport 2-1 Trojans 3s
6th March 2010

After a tough game earlier in the season at Trojans where AJ Cree took a multiple fracture to the cheek, it was time to try and get a result against a good opposition.

With just 3 minutes gone early Gosport pressure paid dividends as a driving run from Lou Brackstone lead to a shot from the top of the D which was duly swept in at the far post by Gaynor Toms (1-0).  A high tempo half continued with chances at both ends.  The Gosport defence in particular showing good strength and composure, with limited chances for the Trojans team.  A few PCs for the home side did not bear dividends either, with the oppo keeper in good form.  Half time 1-0.

With the second 35 underway it was evident that it was going to take a full team effort to secure the points.  Good running in the midfield from Sam Mitchell and increased confidence on the right flank from Imogen Demetriou began to put the Trojans defence under strain.  Another run by Lou, lead to a PC.  The PC broke down at the top of the D, with the ball ending in the far right of the pitch.  Not to be undone, Imi pursued a lost cause, hustled for the ball from the left back, drove the line and switched a precise pass to the P spot for the on fire Gaynor to finish into the far corner (2-0).

With a slightly ‘safer’ scoreline the Trojans support (aspiring parents trying to influence the umpires) became a bit more vociferous.  Within 5 minutes they got what they came to see.  An uncleared PC in the whites defence fell invitingly for the Trojans forwards to sweep home from close range (2-1).

The returning ‘Crazy’ Claire Saunders now took centre stage, as a stumbling dive on to the astro in midfield lead to grazed bits and an early substitution!  With 20 minutes to go however there was still time for some controversy…. Another PC for the away side left the ball 6 yards out and the forward planted a rising shot straight into the head of Danielle Ruzewicz.  With blood flowing it all turned a bit messy, as disgusting calls from both the Trojans support and players for another PC were turned away.  Danielle in the meantime was taken to hospital.

The last 10 or so minutes saw chances for Gosport to extend their lead, but 2-1 was enough on the day.  Full time 2-1.

Two games to go, 6 points and a real chance of mid table obscurity… good times after such a bad start to the season!

Sausage verdict – AJ claims she is the sausage master?!
