Ladies 1st vs Yateley Ladies 2nd

Gosport 1-0 Yateley 2s
23rd January 2010

After last week’s pasting in the most even 6-0 you will ever see it was a return to St V and a long awaited return to winning ways.

With Yateley leaving two players high at all times hoping to catch Gosport on the quick counter it was always going to be an interesting battle.  Constant pressure from the whites began to pay dividends with a couple of PCs and some good saves keeping the scoreline at 0-0.  After 15 minutes, at the third PC, Gosport finally got their dues with a quick injection from Hannah Masson giving Gaynor Toms time at the top of the D to weave between two defenders and dispatch a powerful drive onto the back board (GOAL 1-0).  As ever a few moments of panic came and went in the home D with the defenders showing some more composure than in previous weeks. Half time 1-0.

Still with the thoughts of a 6-2 beating in the reverse fixture in the backs of their minds the home ladies went to the field once more knowing that the next 35 could be vital to their season.  More of the same was served up.  With the whites dominating possession but not finding the killer finish.  The oppo no.11 began to cause a few problems with strong running, but some good saves by Julie Way helped keep a clean sheet.  Full time 1-0.

Results elsewhere leave Gosport with a chance to leap out of the bottom three next Saturday by beating local rivals P&S….

Oh, and apparently Gosport sausage is not as good as Southampton sausage (so say AJ and Sam?!).
