Portsmouth & Southsea Ladies 1st vs Ladies 1st
P&S 0-1 Gosport
30th January 2010
If ever there was going to be a classic scrappy 6 pointer this was it!
Finally with a winning feeling in their hearts Gosport came to the game off the back of a prior week strong performance. Unfortunately AJ Cree actually came to the game with probably 20 units of alcohol still in her stomach….a bench start then! The sober 11 who made it to the field started strongly and noticeably grew in confidence as the half progressed. Good quality passing ensued as ball retention became the theme of the half. Persistent fast running on the left by Georgia Clist, combined with good work in the centre of the park by Sam Mitchell and Joni Duffus caused the home side all sort of problems. Chances came and went for the Mighty Whites (playing in blue) – with ‘Pucks’ in the middle of the park for the oppo growing ever more frustrated. Eventually, the ball broke on the left for Gaynor ‘Magic’ Toms to weave between two flailing challenges at the edge of the D. Faced with the keeper at the near post a master class of a dummy then took place (we all know it was a mis-hit!?) as the keeper was wrong footed and the ball trickled in at the near post (GOAL 0-1). More of the same was in order as Gosport continued to hustle their way and demand the ball. Carra then maybe showed a little too much enthusiasm as she nudged/shoulder-barged the P&S player off the ball to received a lucky green (totally ruining the side’s clean disciplinary record for the season in the process!). Half time 0-0.
After a good 35, the team began to sit back. Julie made some good saves both in open play and at PCs, with Joni clearing well. It took 10 minutes to wake up once more. Finally the energy was rekindled with Gosport taking the game once more to the opposition. This coincided with the time in the game that MOM Christina Nelson finally decided to play… A few confident runs down the right began to cause havoc. Combined with some killer hits all of a sudden turned Christina into a force to be reckoned with. One shot flashing wide as the keeper stood rooted to the ground. Full time 0-1.
A win sends Gosport up to the lofty heights of 7th, with the team facing a good Uni team next.
Sausage verdict – ok
MOM – Christina Nelson
